My name is Lakeyta J, and I would like to update you guys on my journey. I’m still all in! I told you guys in January that I started this journey as a promise to my daughter. I told her I would take better care of myself so I could be here for her after she lost her dad in 2020.
Today, my journey has morphed into much more than I could imagine. It has turned into a self-love journey. I’m inspired to keep going because I know what my body deserves. I’m going to continue to give my body what it needs. I only get this one body, and I’m going to do right by it,
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits gradually from red meat to chicken and turkey products. Then, I watched a documentary called “What The Health,” which influenced my decision to become vegan (WFPB) on November 5th. 2021. I haven’t had any animal products since then, lol.
Tell us about your workout routine.
I started to move in November as well. I told myself if I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself, I had to move. So I started running on the treadmill six days a week at a very slow pace. It was hard and discouraging at first, but I kept going.
I have learned to truly enjoy running, which is something I NEVER EVER thought was possible. I’ve connected with like-minded women that like to run via BGR (Black Girls Run Cleveland), and it’s been amazing. I completed my first 5k on August 7th and was so proud of myself. It was hard, but God coached me through every mile.
Starting weight/Current weight
My highest weight was 308 pounds in March 2021, and my current weight as of August 21, 2022 is 202 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5 feet, 6 inches tall.
When did you begin your journey?
I started my journey in November 2021.
Is weight loss surgery page of your journey?
No, weight loss surgery is not part of my journey.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned is to eat for nourishment. For a long time, I ate for comfort, but now I’m learning to listen to my hunger cues. I do my best to be mindful when I eat, but I’m learning it’s not about perfection. It’s more so about PROGRESSION. I’m not perfect by any means, but I don’t give up. I continue on.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
My advice for women is to be KIND to themselves and give themselves grace. A LIFESTYLE change is not a straight easy path, but it’s a learning experience of trial and error and moving forward no matter what. There will be highs and lows but keep going. Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
