Transformation of the Day: Ange lost 28kg/62 pounds with healthy food and exercise. After giving birth to her first child in 2020, she lost focus on her health and fell into comfort eating. Determined to be the best version of herself and a healthy mom for her son, she started making sustainable, healthy changes to her lifestyle.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
Last year, I had my first child, and I completely lost focus on my weight and health after giving birth. I used food for comfort. Food made me happy, so I was eating anything that I craved daily.
When my son was six months old, I realized I weighed 130kgs/287 pounds, which shocked me. I also noticed I was breathless walking around the house.
I was motivated to be a healthy and fit mother for my son as he deserves the best version of me. Whenever I want to give up, he is my number one motivation. Now he sees me working out and eating well, and he is mimicking my actions, so I can’t let him down.
How did you change your eating habits?
I still enjoy a lot of the food I liked before, but now I have learned about calorie counting and eating in moderation. I also make sure I’m eating from all food groups. I’m not starving myself because I’m not productive when I’m hungry. I track all my workouts and food consumption daily. I’ve also written an E-book that explains exactly what I did to lose 28 kgs from A to Z. It will be available in October 2021.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I can’t spend hours in the gym all week, so I have been doing 45-minute workouts three days a week. In addition to this routine, I also do fun workouts like dancing, skipping, or learning something new. I recommend only committing to exercise you enjoy or that you can see yourself doing long-term or it’s unlikely to stick.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I was 130 kgs/287 pounds, and I currently weigh 102 kgs/225 pounds. I’m looking forward to seeing 99kg!
What is your height?
158cm/5’2″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started the first week of January 2021, and it’s taken nine whole months to lose the weight. Some months I lost 4kgs and others around 2kg. Of course, it fluctuates, but I noticed even if I didn’t lose as much, the changes in my body continued to show.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Weight loss is more about mental strength than physical strength. It’s essential to do it in a healthy and sustainable way so you can enjoy the process. Don’t be too hard on yourself. The scale isn’t always a good indication of your progress. Also, it’s ok if the results come slowly. Be patient because it’ll be worth the wait.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
You can do this! You can have delicious food while you lose weight. It’s not all just carrot and cucumber sticks. The more you empower yourself with the knowledge of how to do it in a way that suits your lifestyle, the easier it will be.
Just know there will be ups and downs, and that’s where discipline comes in. Motivation comes and goes, but discipline will sustain you.
