Transformation of the Day: Shenisha lost over 200 pounds. She has worked hard for 2 1/2 years, using fitness, healthy food, and patience to transform her health and lifestyle. Calorie counting and portion control are two of the main tools she used.
My name is Shenisha, and I lost over 200 pounds in just about 2 1/2 years. At my heaviest, I weighed around 442 pounds.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in June 2018, and it took about 2 1/2 years for me to lose 200+ lbs.” I started by walking and learning how to properly portion my food, count calories, and keep a positive mind space.
What was your motivation?
I wanted to change for the better of my mind, body, and soul. Now I’ve reversed my health issues (related to severe obesity). I’m more positive, and I’m thankful to be alive. I suffer from PTSD and Anxiety, so I know all too well about the dark dwelling place of the mind. I still struggle with trauma, but each day is a new day to be stronger.
How did you change your eating habits?
I don’t diet. Instead, I watch what I eat and make sure that I am counting my calories and using portion control.
Do you have a specific daily goal for calories? Do you track macros as well?
When it comes to my calorie intake, I usually follow my Basal Metabolic Rate. This has helped me in maintaining the number of calories I should eat daily. I would definitely like to get into tracking my macros soon. I’ve done my research!
How often did you work out? What kinds of workouts do you do at the gym?
When I first started my journey, I did an ample amount of walking. This gradually turned into jumping jacks and squats. Now, I am actively in the gym (maybe 2 or 3 times a week). I mainly do weight training and cardio. Those are my favorite calorie-burning activities! I like to create my own routines.
What is your height?
I am 5 ft, 1 inch tall.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not and do not plan on having any type of weight loss surgery or procedure.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to be patient with myself. This journey is not going to happen overnight. You have to be determined, motivated, and consistent in every way to make your life better. Even when it gets hard, you have to try harder.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
The primary key to a successful weight loss is what you allow yourself to believe. You have to take away every single negative thought, perspective, crutch, joke… whatever it is, and throw it out the window. Once you take that away, you can start doing what you truly need to do to better yourself. You can build the person you want to be. Love yourself, have faith in what you can accomplish, and you will get the job done.”
I want people to know that it is possible to lose weight and reach the goals that they feel are impossible.
