Nicole lost 110 pounds. To regain her confidence, she had to accept what she didn’t like and work to fix it. Back in 2016, she had the gastric sleeve procedure. She also improved her eating habits and worked with a trainer who gives her encouragement and guidance.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My weight loss motivation was that I wanted to become confident in myself again. I had to accept what I didn’t like and fix it.
What keeps me going is knowing that I’m working towards my goals without the need for instant gratification. It’s hard, and I’ve cried, but I’m determined to be better.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating bread, rice, red meat, and most dairy products. I drink tons of water daily. If I want a sweet drink, I’ll have a Crystal Light for taste. I no longer drink alcoholic beverages because they contain sugar and can cause a number of health issues.
What does your workout routine consist of? How often do you work out?
I work out three times a week with my personal trainer, @jeffknowz. Working with him is the best decision of my life. He encourages me, pushes me to do better, and I do. It is the greatest feeling knowing you are working hard for yourself and the outcome is in your hands. It is very empowering.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 300 pounds, and my current weight is 190!!
What is your height?
I am 5’7″.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in 2013.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I’ve had two weight loss procedures. Back in 2013, I had the lap band, and in 2016 I had the gastric sleeve. I’m pleased with the second procedure. (I don’t have the lap band anymore. It was not sufficient for me.)
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Believe in yourself and know that it can be done. I’m 51 yrs old and proud of what I’m doing. I gained weight because I had no faith in who I was, and eating was a mask. I no longer need to wear that mask. I can see who I truly am.
Reinventing ourselves as black women is our power! It only takes one person to believe in you, and that’s you. Once you do that, all others will follow. Most importantly, ask God for insight, and he will guide your path.
