Transformation of the Day: Rakeb lost 50+ pounds. When she went away to college, she didn’t gain the freshman 15. Instead, she gained the freshman 50. Determined to reclaim her happiness and health, she pushed past feelings of depression and a lack of motivation. By transitioning to a plant-based diet and working out consistently, she has achieved great results.
What was your motivation?
My journey started when I went away to college. They call it the freshman 15. I called it freshman 50! I went away to college and gained 50 pounds. My weight reached 200 pounds. I remember scrolling through Instagram and wishing I had the motivation and body that other women have. However, I did nothing to change my habits.
I was depressed, not motivated, lazy, and unhappy. I woke up one day and decided to take control of my weight and my happiness. I went vegan and started exercising 3-5 times a week. Now I’ve lost over 50 pounds, and I am stronger than ever!
When did you start your journey?
I started working out in 2016, but I wasn’t consistent, and I didn’t have any idea what to do in the gym.
I tried my journey again in 2018. I began doing Crossfit and strength training. I went vegetarian (currently vegan) because I needed a severe cleanse and a challenge. That first year was very tough for me mentally, but I knew I had to push. I currently exercise 5-6 times a week, and I am aiming to grow muscles.
What is your current weight?
My current weight is 162 pounds. I’m 24 years old.
What is your height?
I am 5’4″.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice to my ladies and gents is, your body is constantly changing. Stop giving up when you don’t see results in two weeks. It takes time and discipline.
