Transformation of the Day: Ty lost 53 pounds. She was tired of feeling tired and uncomfortable in her skin. She was also tired of seeing “morbidly obese” on her paperwork when she went to the doctor. She completely switched up her eating habits and used at-home workout programs to get fit.
What was your motivation?
I’m a 43-year-old mother of one tween boy, and I’m also a wife. I started my journey out at 198 pounds. I’m only 5 foot 1 so having a lot of weight on you at that height is pretty heavy.
Every time I would go to the doctor, the paperwork always listed me as morbidly obese. I decided at that point that I didn’t want to feel tired and sluggish anymore. I didn’t want to feel unhealthy and uncomfortable in my own skin. I started watching a Beachbody Coach who lost 100 pounds. I realized I had nothing to lose, so I gave Beachbody a try. Within a year, I lost 53 pounds.
I stay accountable by sharing my journey with others. I get so many messages about how I have inspired people, which pushes me to keep going. I want to help others reach their weight loss goals even when I want to give up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating processed food and fast food. When I went to the grocery store, I made sure that I bought salads, fruits, and veggies. I started meal prepping each week, looking up different recipes, and expanding my palate. I also started drinking more water and drinking less alcohol.
Tell us more about your workout routine.
I work out five days a week. When I signed up with Beachbody, I started using a program called 21 Day Fix. Then I expanded to more programs, like 80 Day Obsession, Morning Meltdown 100, Muscle Burns Fat, 10 Rounds, Barre Blend, and dabbled in Transform 20 & The Work. I’m currently on 9 Week Control Freak.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey In February 2019. However, I really didn’t take it seriously and wasn’t consistent until January 2020.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I didn’t have weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I’ve learned that it’s not about the number on the scale. It’s about how you feel. Once I stopped focusing on the scale and started focusing on being consistent, I truly saw results. Now, I just aim to look & feel comfortable in my skin.
I have life stressors just like everyone else. Sometimes I’m unmotivated. Sometimes I want to do fewer reps, but then I have to remember WHY I chose to start this journey. This is not just for me but for my family. I want to be the example and show them that if I can do it, so can they…so can you.
Your body will give you in return what you give it. If you eat healthy, move your body at least 30 min a day, five days a week, take care of your skin, and drink your water, it will eventually start to show on the outside. It took me less than a year to lose 53 pounds, and I’m still going. I’m pushing every day, not just for a Summer body but that Forever body. I am excited for what this next chapter of my life holds.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
If you’re starting your weight loss journey, it’s essential to eat healthy food instead of just focusing on exercise alone because being your best version begins from the inside first. If you’re trying to tone up and reshape your body, get into strength training and use weights. Don’t just focus on cardio.
Be consistent. Show up even when you don’t want to and practice self-care. And finally, remember there’s no quick fix or magical pill that will cause long-lasting results. PUT IN THE WORK! Don’t give up. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
