Faith lost 37 pounds. She was tired of the cycle of dieting, feeling deprived, and regaining weight. A friend’s book suggestion led to her making intermittent fasting part of her daily routine. She also worked out at home as exercise is key to her mental wellbeing.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
First, I want to say that I have been on every diet possible, lol. I started 2020 very optimistic about reaching another weight loss goal. All was well until the lockdown. I did not know how to handle the emotional rollercoaster that came with restricted movement. I cooked and wallowed in depression as my weight continued to rise.
In July, I got to my highest weight of 253 pounds and 52% body fat. I had to find a solution. I was sick of being on a diet, feeling deprived, and like my efforts were extreme. I took my before pictures and prayed that something would free me from this cycle. A friend recommended I read The Obesity Code by Dr. Fung, and that’s when I had an aha moment! I continued to read more about fasting and the scientific research behind fasting, and I was sold.
Now, I’ve settled in a routine that works for my lifestyle. Every time I think about giving up, I remember the feeling of losing weight through extreme means and gaining it all back. I am liberated!
How did you change your eating habits?
I started fasting for 12 hours. I switched to 14 hours, 16 hours, and then 20 hrs a day. Every time my muscle memory got better, and I found fasting easier. It took a few weeks for my appetite adjustment to kick in. I drank coffee, electrolytes in my water and stayed busy during my fasts. I kept sugar and carbs at a minimum in the beginning so my body could adjust to glucose for energy. Currently, I don’t have any diet restrictions.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out every morning, except on weekends. I do YouTube cardio workouts and lift light weights in my living room. Exercise is essential to my mental wellbeing.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 252 pounds, and today sit at 215 pounds. I am most proud of the belly fat that I’ve lost.
What is your height?
5’6″
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Fasting has allowed me the freedom to eat the foods I like without feeling deprived. I am able to control my cravings naturally.
