Tamika lost several clothing sizes and 35 pounds. She decided that she didn’t want to come out of the pandemic heavier than when it started. By walking, biking, and following her weight loss coach’s plan, my Sigma Gamma Rho soror is getting results. (Tamika is our International Grand Epistoleus.)
My name is Tamika. I am 47 years old. I have struggled with weight my entire life and have lost weight on many different occasions. I have pretty much been on every plan possible. However, this time, losing weight meant something more to me once I began the Terry Starks weight loss plan.
People say the older you get, the harder it is to lose weight. That was true in my case. Before beginning Terry’s plan, I had an exceedingly difficult time losing weight. In the last three years, I seemed to gain weight with no rhyme or reason, and it made me sad.
When the pandemic hit, I realized that I did not want to come out of the pandemic heavier than when it started. I was exercising, but it was not enough because my metabolism was terribly slow. I found out about Terry’s weight loss plan, and I figured I would give it a try.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
Honestly, I just wanted to feel better, maintain/improve my mobility. I also do not want to be sick as I get older.
How did you change your eating habits?
I used Terry Starks‘s customized meal plan. It was quite simple to follow, but I had to change my mindset about food. I said goodbye to a few foods I love to eat a lot. Cheese was about three food groups to me prior to joining the program.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
Since we were/are in a pandemic, the gyms were closed here in California. I basically walked and rode my bicycle for exercise. I usually ride my bike for an hour daily. Biking has become my favorite form of exercise. I also hike on occasion.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I would rather focus on my size. I lost 35 pounds but went down from a 3XL to an XL. I wore a size 20/22, and I currently wear a size 16. My goal is a size medium and 8/10.
What is your height?
I am 5’6″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I began my journey on June 15, 2020. It took about 15 weeks. Terry and I are still working together to get me to my goal of size.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery was involved. I do not plan on getting surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Terry Starks’ plan requires you to eat more frequently. I used to eat 1-2 meals per day. Now, I eat five times a day.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
- Love yourself and be patient.
- Trust the process.
- Don’t spend too much time on the scale. It can be temperamental.
- Set small tangible goals for yourself and work towards that.
