Tiffany lost 37 pounds. During the peak of the pandemic, she decided she was tired of feeling bad, ordering DoorDash, and not being in control. She took action by cooking more meals and working out at home or at a local park.
My name is Tiffany, and I’m the owner/operator of Fist Full of Kinkz by Tiffany (@fistfullofkinkz). I began my umpteenth fitness journey during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This isn’t a new thing for me. I’ve managed to stay active throughout most of my adult life, even getting to my goal weight in 2014 in time for my grad school graduation.
Since then, I’ve been off and on (mostly off). I tend to hide away and eat like crazy when everything isn’t going so great. By 2020, I had gotten up to 291 pounds, my highest weight ever. Being 5’11”, most people don’t “see” it, but my knees, my clothes, my confidence, and my spirit FELT every pound.
I even considered bariatric surgery as a solution. However, I made a pact with my husband that if I could get down to 250 lbs on my own, I’d continue my weight loss journey using the old-fashioned sweat & consistency method.
Fast forward to late May/early July of this year: I’d finally had enough of feeling like shit (and ordering DoorDash several times a day). If I couldn’t control anything else around me, I knew I could control my eating and exercise habits.
With so much quarantine/summer hibernation time still going on, I decided to get busy. I was able to lose almost 30 pounds on my own. However, that moment of backsliding has reared its ugly head, as it always does for me. I’ve slipped up in every area (eating and exercise). Even last week, I was in a bit of a slump.
How did you change your eating habits?
I didn’t use any specific program. I just stopped eating out so much and started cooking at home more. That way, I was able to cut back on unnecessary calories and save money.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I have a spin bike at home that I used every other day in conjunction with the Peloton app. They offered a free 90-day trial during the height of the pandemic, and I took full advantage of it.
I included some strength training in my routine. I also took 1-2 mile walks outside at the park near my home.
How often did you work out?
I aimed to work out at least four times per week. I worked overnight at a hospital, so sometimes rest was my workout of choice.
What is your current weight?
As of today, I weigh 254.3 pounds.
What is your height?
5’11”
How long did your transformation take?
My journey is still in progress, but the bulk of it has taken me about 3.5-4 months.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson I learned was that every workout doesn’t have to be a grueling, grunting sweat session. Sometimes less is more, and it still counts towards whatever fitness goal(s) I have.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t give up and stay consistent. The scale won’t always move as fast (or at all) in the direction you want, but there are other non-scale victories to celebrate. (inches lost, fitting back into old clothes, increased energy, etc.)
Also, find someone to help hold you accountable to your goal. That way, there’s less chance of you falling off and having to start over again.
