Crissy lost 13 pounds and lots of inches. She started her journey at the end of March to be a healthy mom for her kids and break generational health curses in her family. She made several changes to her lifestyle, including eating six meals a day, lifting weights daily, and cutting out fast food and sugar.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
What inspired me the most was making sure I lived for my children. We are so quick to say we will die or give our lives for our children, but I had to ask myself, “Are you willing to live for them?” They are my primary motivation.
Also, my desire to break generational health curses in my family motivates me to keep going. I’ve given up so many times on this journey, but my boyfriend is a fitness trainer and a Godsend. Watching his journey inspires me to keep going.
I know that anything worth having is worth fighting and sacrificing for.
How did you change your eating habits?
When I began this journey, I cut out sugar, fast food and started only drinking water. I didn’t have any cheat days for the first 30 days. I ate six meals a day that consisted of protein, veggies, and carbs. I didn’t give up white rice or potatoes until the 6th month of my journey!
I do not eat pork, so my main protein sources are chicken, fish, and turkey. I have one cheat day a week. I also drink water, protein shakes, green tea, and Iaso teas. I just recently cut out alcohol.
Sticking to a consistent routine of eating three small meals a day and three snacks a day has helped me. I tried OMAD and other fads, but they did not work for me.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out 5-6 times a week. My workouts consist of lifting weights daily! They have become my best friends. I also do HIIT 3-4 times a week, and I jump rope 5-6 days a week. I do about 2000-3000 jumps per day.
My transformation has happened during quarantine, so I’ve probably been to a gym maybe 6 or 7 times. My results have just been from at-home workouts. I use dumbbells, ankle weights, barbells, and bands.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 205 pounds, and my current weight is 192 pounds. The scale hasn’t moved much, but my body clearly has transformed! Getting on the scale discouraged me so much. If it weren’t for pictures, I would’ve given up! I still wear a size 15/16, but my body has completely changed. Throw away the scale and don’t give yourself an end goal. The goal should be to make it a lifestyle. I will be on this journey until the good Lord calls me home.
What is your height?
I am 5’3.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey at the end of March 2020, so it’s almost been seven months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I have not had any surgery on my journey. Have I wanted to? Mannnnn, Yes! God showed me that what He wants to develop in me through this journey would require me to do it naturally. I encourage everyone to do whatever they see fit! There is no one set formula. However you choose to do it, whether naturally or with help through surgical procedures, it’s your journey. Own it and embrace it.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that this is not a one-time decision. I have to choose this journey every second, every minute, every meal, and before every workout. It’s a choice. The only thing holding me back is me. I look at every day as Day 1 of my journey!
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
My advice to women who desire to lose weight is to approach this journey by focusing not on what you want to lose but what you will gain. You will gain strength, stamina, healthy habits, more self-esteem, and greater self-awareness. You will gain discipline, self-love, new friendships, and greater insight. When you focus on what you gain instead of what you are trying to lose, your appreciation of what is and attitude towards what’s to come will remain positive.
