Shaniek lost 50 pounds. Once she conditioned her mindset to align with her goals, she was able to change her life. Working with a trainer, meal prep, and intermittent fasting are just some of the tools she used to get results.
Losing weight starts with conditioning your mind. I tried multiple times to lose weight and failed. Once I conditioned and made up in my mind to lose weight, my life changed. I wasn’t happy with how my stomach looked or how my boobs were getting huge. When the numbers on my scale started to drop, that motivated me even more to continue.
How did you change your eating habit?
I ate more lean protein, meal prepped and weighed my food using a scale, portion my food. I followed a meal plan given to me by my Trainer at the time. I cut out red meat and sodas completely when I started. I cut out fast foods, sweets, and salad dressing as well.
I opted for the healthier versions of salad dressing. I also stopped drinking regular milk and opted for almond milk instead. I started to eat mainly seafood (salmon, snapper, shrimp, etc.) and chicken breast. I do have a day where I indulge in a cheat meal, but I get back on track the next day. I was eating six small meals and losing weight until I stopped losing weight. Then I started practicing intermittent fasting, which has been a lifesaver.
Tell us about your workout routine.
When I started, I was working out with a personal trainer for only 2-3 sessions a week. We did cardio and strength training exercises. We also did many HIIT workouts consisting of squats, mountain climbers, pull-ups, burpees, incline walks on the treadmill, push-ups, jump rope, etc. For all workouts, we incorporated weights. I also included waist training 4-8 hours a day (including while working out).
I still have a trainer now, but due to the pandemic and the gyms being closed, I’ve gotten accustomed to doing workouts at home via Zoom. I work out five days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 234 pounds back in 2017. I currently weigh 184lbs. I lost 30 pounds in 3 mths when I started. I lost the remaining 10 pounds plus more due to my detox teas. I detox five days a week.
What is your height?
My height is 5’8″.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No weight loss surgery. All-natural weight loss.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be consistent, no matter what. Losing weight is hard but remain consistent. Follow people on social media who are in the same situation as you for additional motivation. I post every day and share my story. I realize that I have motivated a lot of women, so that keeps me going. Check out my Instagram page, @nieks_giftshop.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice to women is to start. Stop procrastinating. The results you’re looking for are hidden in the work you are avoiding. Don’t make it too complicated. Slow and steady, no rush.
My other advice is don’t get caught up in the scale. I stopped watching the numbers and focused on taking pictures, making comparisons, and watching my overall body.
