Transformation of the Day: Lavita lost 155+ pounds with portion control and exercise. The pressure of moving to a new country and living on her own for the first time led to unhealthy eating and weight gain. Wanting to be the best, healthy version of herself, she started making practical lifestyle changes that she could commit to for the long haul.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going?
Moving to a new country was not an easy adjustment, but I made do with the cards I was dealt. Living on my own as an adult for the first time proved to be very difficult. I couldn’t afford the things needed for a well-balanced diet, so junk food, snacks, and cheap instant meals kept me going until my weight got the best of me and my health.
I was honestly tired of being the way I was and wanted to change myself overall. I wanted to be the best version of myself because I was settling and not living.
I also want to be a role model for my little sister and anyone else who thinks its too difficult to change. Nothing in life is easy, but if you want it bad enough, you will stop at nothing to make it happen!
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
May 1st, 2018, is the day I decided that I’m doing this for ME! My transformation took a little over a year before I felt happy with my results. I surpassed my goal weight, and that was the best feeling EVER!
How did you change your eating habits?
I gave up red meat, as well as pork. White meat and fish were my only protein options. (I’m allergic to shellfish.) In the beginning, I had no particular plan, just using portion control. As I gradually started to get into a rhythm and started educating myself on the foods I consume, my plan changed throughout my journey.
What was your workout routine?
I didn’t start going to the gym until almost nine months into my journey, due to my insecurities and low self-esteem. Once I built up the courage to get my body toned up, I started going. Before the pandemic, I was at the gym 3-4 days a week, doing weightlifting. Since the pandemic, I have been doing home workouts and walking at least five days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
The day I started my journey, I weighed 300 pounds, my lowest weight was 130 pounds, but today I’m at a comfortable weight of 145 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5 foot, 4 inches tall.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Protect your mental at all costs because it plays a vital role in how successful you will be on your journey. Loose skin and body dysmorphia are real, and they may affect each person differently (if they experience it).
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
This is YOUR journey, and no one else’s! Do not put yourself on the same levels as others. Don’t turn your journey into a competition because other people don’t want to see you win. Be mindful of the toxic people in your life, and be ready to let them go ASAP! Do not discuss your goals and plans with anyone who you know for sure will sabotage your success!
Never let anyone’s perception of you stop you from being the best version of yourself. You will go through the motions of defeat and discouragement but say focused, go at your own pace and trust the process entirely.
