Transformation of the Day: Kimberlyn lost 130 pounds. At the beginning of her journey, this Zeta Phi Beta soror cut out junk food, soda, fried food, and processed food as part of a month long challenge. After she got great results, she was motivated to clean up her eating habits even more and start working out consistently. She has achieved amazing results.

Hello, I’m Kimberlyn. I’m a 41 year old single mother and high school teacher. I’m originally from NC, and now I’m living in MD.
Even in high school was a good size 14. From there, my weight just increased over the years. When I’d have my yearly physical, all of my numbers and levels came back normal, despite being “morbidly obese” (as my chart read).
Fast forward to late 2018/early 2019: I finally got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I hated what I saw in the mirror. My son was always talking about my “squishy belly”; kids are SOOOO honest. So, I finally made up my mind to do something about it.
I started my journey in August 2019, and it took a good ten months to get where I really wanted to be. I didn’t jump in all at once. It started with a friend posting about a month-long food challenge; No fried, processed foods, no sweets, chips, soda, etc. It was hard, but I stuck with it, and the challenge changed my palate. This food challenge also forced me to drink more water.
I started seeing results! Needless to say, this motivated me to do more. I tightened up on my diet, mainly eating fish, chicken, veggies, roasted sweet potato, etc. (Yep, it was BORING!).
I FINALLY decided to make consistent use of my planet fitness membership. I worked out with the trainers there, who are WONDERFUL people. My workout routine pre-Covid consisted of cardio and weight training. I worked out 3-4 days a week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday)
The results kept me motivated. Even when I hit my “goal weight,” I wanted to push my body to do more. So I did, and I’m STILL pushing!
Today I’m down to a size 8. I’ve NEVER been this small. When I began this journey, I wore a size 22/24 (NO LIE). This journey hasn’t been easy. It has required tears, prayers, more tears, and just trying to be consistent despite dealing with all that life has to offer. BUT I did it, and I’m still going!
Weight loss surgery has never been a part of my journey. I’ve done this all naturally. I’ve even been able to tighten up some loose skin in places with weight lifting. This fall, I plan to devote more time to weight training to continue tightening loose skin and to work on my definition. My new goal: come Spring 2021, I would like to participate in fitness competitions.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to have patience with myself and to love and appreciate the things that I now know my body is capable of doing. I never knew that I would be able to get my body as lean as I have been able to do.
My biggest piece of advice is that you have to be consistent and set clear goals. Take the time to be selfish and put yourself FIRST!
