Felita lost 20 pounds by working out and adopting healthier eating habits. My Sigma Gamma Rho Soror is living her best life at 51 years young. Her family helped her stay motivated, and her success made them want to get up and move too.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey on November 27, 2017. I weighed 170 pounds.
I’ve always worked out here and there. However, I was never consistent with it. This time, I made a promise to myself to be consistent. I walked into the gym at 5 am and never looked back.
I will be 52 years old this November. Since I’m older now and I have a hip injury, now I walk 5 miles three days a week. I work out 5-6 days a week.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
What inspires me to keep going? My family actually inspires me. They continuously support my lifestyle, and it makes them get up and move.
How did you change your eating habits?
I didn’t have to change my diet much. I don’t eat beef or pork. I cut back on the sweets, and now I’m slowly cutting dairy out my diet. I meal prep lunch and dinner on Sundays. I also read labels now, and I drink about a gallon of water a day.
What is your current weight?
My current weight is 150 pounds, with about 26% body fat. My goal is 20% body fat. My waist was 31 inches, and it’s now 28 inches.
What is your height?
I’m 5’2″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is: it’s not a one plan fits all. I also learned not to rush my journey. Take your time. This is your journey, not the journey of social media. This is a lifestyle, not a race or a competition.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice to other women is: figure out your why. Do this for yourself. Love yourself enough to know when it’s time for a change. Your life literally depends on it.
My advice to older women is don’t get intimidated in the gym. Get in there, do your workouts and go about your day. It’s just that simple. Not to mention, there’s a great fitness community on Instagram.
