Tiona wrote in to celebrate her baby sister Latia’s weight loss transformation. Latia lost 71 pounds by working out and changing her mindset about food. She learned that you have to be dedicated, determined, and committed to the process.
“I’d like to for you to spotlight my baby sister Latia’s weight loss journey. When she was in college, she gained a lot of weight, as so many people do. Without even realizing, she lost 30 pounds by changing her diet. Now, she is more focused and cognizant about her health and diet. She works out 5 to 6 days a week and has changed her mindset about food.”
What was your motivation?
My motivation was a desire to have a healthy lifestyle and gain the confidence to embrace my body. I also wanted to have more energy throughout the day and not feel sluggish or exhausted.
How did you change your eating habits?
When I first started my journey, I cut out fried food and began eating baked items and vegetables. It was my first attempt at eating healthier, and I wasn’t sure about meal prep ideas.
I started a 10-day cleanse and drank three green smoothies a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ate only plant-based foods or boiled eggs throughout the day.
What does your workout routine consist of?
My workout consisted of mostly cardio workouts. I worked out five days a week, sometimes six days. My free days are on a Sunday and/or Wednesday.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 266 pounds, and now I’m down to 195 pounds. (Her sister let us know that she lost 20 of those pounds during the quarantine.)
What is your height?
My height is 5’5″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in the summer of 2019. It took me a year to achieve my transformation.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I didn’t have weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I’ve learned throughout this journey that patience is essential, and losing weight doesn’t happen overnight. You have to be dedicated, determined, and committed to the process.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t give up. Get creative and change your perspective. Have fun with this journey. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely worth it. Trust the process. See it through to get the results you want.
