Malecia lost 39 pounds by focusing on nutrition and intense workouts. She wants to encourage people who have backslid on their weight loss journey and let them know it’s not too late to get back on track.
My name is Malecia, and Black Women Losing Weight featured me in 2015. I worked to stay consistent with my workouts. However, after I moved away from my family and support system, I no longer prioritized my health. I wanted to share an update to show others who may have backslid with their weight loss progress that it’s not too late to get back on track.
What was your motivation?
My inspiration was wanting to have the energy to be with my son. I started having dizzy spells in late 2019 and felt exhausted all of the time. After finally going to the doctor, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. That’s when I knew I had to change and take my life back.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I stayed inspired because I knew what the alternative was. Either I was going to take control of my life, or I would let my circumstances consume me.
How did you change your eating habits?
The fitness program I started had an easy to follow nutrition guide that worked for me. I was still able to eat the foods I loved, just in healthier versions. And the food wasn’t nasty, LOL!
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
My first workout program was intense. It was a 100 workout challenge. Some days I would double up, but it was an intense HIIT workout.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 228 pounds. My current weight now is 189 pounds.
What is your height?
5’0″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey on 3/10/20, right before the world shut down due to COVID-19.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No weight loss surgery
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned is that I’m stronger than I thought I was.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Take it one day at a time, one workout at a time, and one move at a time. Start with small realistic goals and update them as you achieve them.
