Ashly lost 99 pounds. She got tired of yo-yo dieting and her weight fluctuating. She decided to have gastric sleeve surgery in 2018 and adopt a new healthy lifestyle. The Ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting have also been part of her transformation.
For years, I struggled with losing weight through yo-yo dieting and my weight going up and down. Until one day, I got serious and started my journey to weight loss surgery. Two years post-op, I continued with Keto and intermittent fasting. Today I’m happy and healthier.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in 2017. It took about three years before I finally noticed my results.
I had a gastric sleeve surgery on January 16, 2018. At the time, my mom was my motivation until I found a Facebook group: “Black Girls Get Sleeved Too.” I was inspired by other women who had the same weight loss surgery or similar operations.
What inspired you to keep going?
I kept myself in check because I remember the feeling of sadness and defeat. I knew I never wanted to ever feel that way again.
How did you change your eating habits?
I have a nutritionist who gave me a blueprint of what I should and shouldn’t eat. I knew that to be successful, I had too cut out junk food, fast food, drinking, and carbs.
My intermittent fasting eating window is between 2 pm and 9 pm (but of course, I stop by 7 pm…maybe 8 pm on a good day).
Tell us about your workout routine.
I did a lot of cardio on the treadmill and YouTube workouts. I work out three times a week, maybe four.
What is your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 277 pounds. Now, I weigh 178 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson was that the people you think to support you were actually against you the entire time.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Stay consistent. It’s ok if you have to start over, as long as you start somewhere. The next time, you’ll be starting over with more experience.
