Jada has lost 14 pounds since April 2020. She didn’t want to gain weight during the quarantine. This Delta Sigma Theta soror decided to clean up her eating habits, work out six days a week, and drink lots of water.
I am 21 yrs old and from Louisville, KY. I started my fitness journey back in April 2020 after my 21st birthday. I knew that with quarantine going on, I would gain a bunch of weight (as I had over the years in college). I decided to take a chance and become dedicated to changing my eating habits and working out more. I am so happy I did. I’ve lost nearly 15 pounds since the middle of April, and I feel great! Now, my goal is to encourage others to become the best versions of themselves as well. I’m not done yet!
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation came from working in a hospital. Many of my patients would struggle to breathe just getting out of bed due to being overweight. I realized that I must change what I was doing before I ended up in the same situation.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started to drink nothing but water—literally only water, all day every day. I cut out white bread, cut out sweets, and ate limited fried foods. Eventually, I also cut out red meat about a month into my journey. I do a lot of substituting so that I don’t feel like I’m forcing myself to eat healthily, and I’m still motivated to keep eating right.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
For six days a week, I did cardio. It was kind of extreme, but it worked for me. I would do HIIT routines that I saw on YouTube every day to help me burn at least 600-900 calories so I could remain in a caloric deficit.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 154 pounds. My current weight is 140 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’2″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that dieting/eating healthy is seriously the most important thing a person can do. I’ve had weeks when I wouldn’t work out as much but still lost weight because I was eating right. You can work out all day, not eat right, and you may see little to no results.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
“Suck it up, so you don’t have to suck it in.” Stay consistent. Find a routine that fits for you and do your research. Many of these social media influencers lie about weight loss tips for whatever reason, but everyone should do what works for them!
