Tanika lost 74 pounds. In 2016, she decided to transform her health and her physical appearance with healthy food, exercise, and a disciplined mindset. She gives the glory to God for her success.
Let me start with God! He allowed this to happen, and I’ll forever worship him and give him praise.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
2016 is when I decided to start my weight loss journey. I loved myself then, and I love myself now. I felt beautiful then, and I still feel beautiful now. It took me about two years to get to a comfortable place within myself.
What was your motivation?
It was time to make a change. I wanted something different. I wanted more for myself, so I got to work. It was the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. (Keyword: MYSELF)
My health was my biggest motivation, as well as my physical appearance. When I felt like giving up, I would look back at how far I’ve come and where I can go!
How did you change your eating habits? What is your workout routine?
I cut out most junk foods, such as chips and donuts, and I stopped eating late! My workout routine is a mixture of cardio and weight training. I want to continue to stay strong, just in a smaller frame. Working out four days a week was the key tip for me!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 240 pounds. Now, I weigh 166 pounds at 5’9″. Since I dropped the weight, I’ve heard people ask, “Is she sick?”, “Did a guy stress her?” and “Did she do her body?” The answer is NOOOOO! I was tired of being overweight and not having control of my body.
I also hear people saying, “Don’t lose no more weight.” or trying to force me to eat 🤦🏽♀️, as if it’s their body!
Now, it’s about maintaining my body. Every few months, I learn something new about my body, and that’s the point. (For example: what kind of foods to eat vs. what not to eat) If I do snack on something unhealthy, I no longer overdo it, because I’ll see it affect my body!
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did this naturally.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson was finding my determination and being disciplined. The best part about this journey is that I did this on my own with hard work, dedication, and discipline! My #1 Rule: I’m my own competition
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Find your determination, be disciplined, and don’t cheat yourself!
All I can say to myself is keep going and big myself up! I have so much more work to do, but I’m all here for it! I figured if I put it out here on Instagram, I have to hold myself accountable even more. Instagram: @negest.shebeauty
