Bridget lost 43 pounds by following a Keto lifestyle and working out. Her family has a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. She decided to focus on health and wellness as she approached her 40th birthday.
I’ve lost 43 pounds since January 2019, and 65 pounds since my highest adult weight in 2015. I was motivated to lose weight as I neared 40 years old (I turned 40 on June 30, 2020). I am 5’9″.
What was your motivation?
I was determined to be healthier as I got older because diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer run rampant on both sides of my family.
How did you change your eating habits?
I follow a Keto-based lifestyle (high fat, moderate protein, and low carb). In addition to Keto, I also incorporated intermittent fasting.
Tell us about your workout routine.
I didn’t start working out until much later in my journey. Of course, I began to see much more drastic results when I did. I worked out almost daily using HIIT home videos.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did not have weight loss surgery.
What advice would you share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice to women who want to lose weight (and to myself) is that weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. It doesn’t take a day to lose weight, just like it didn’t take a day to gain it.
Be kind to yourself. Be patient with yourself. Realize that as quickly as you may fall, you can get back up and get back on track. Remember your overall goals and stay the course.
My advice to those who want to begin a Keto lifestyle is to DO YOUR RESEARCH. Fully understand Keto before you jump in, and that means understanding the science behind it – why it works, how it works, and how to read food labels. Don’t just go around asking, “Is this food keto?” To truly be successful, you need to have a complete understanding. It’s not a quick fix. It IS a lifestyle.
