Transformation of the Day: Calela lost 42 pounds by making sensible changes to her eating habits and working out. This Singer/Songwriter wants to be a healthy example for her daughter. She has an autoimmune disease, and her doctor suggested that she change her lifestyle to avoid future health issues.
What was your motivation?
My motivation is my daughter. I want to live a healthy lifestyle to see her grow up and see her flourish into life as the beautiful black queen she is. I have to set an example for her. If you want something, go get it. I also have an autoimmune disease, which causes me to be very tired. My doctor said a healthy diet, exercise and flexibility would help me have less problems in the future.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My music inspires me. I sing much stronger when I am healthier, and my endurance increases. My music helps me create the confidence that I have on stage when I perform and sing.
How did you change your eating habits?
In the beginning, I changed my eating habits by eliminating meat. Then, I gradually starting eating shrimp and chicken with minimal carbs. I drink 64 oz or more of water each day – No juice or soda at all. Sometimes I drink smoothies for a meal replacement.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you workout?
I worked out four times a week. I also walked and jogged each day. I do squats, planks, and cardio exercises at home. Each morning, I work out for an hour and a half.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 232 pounds, and my current weight is 190 pounds.
What is your height?
5’4″
When did you start your journey?
I started to really focus in August 2019. Honestly, I’ve been struggling with my weight for years.
How long did your transformation take?
Eight months
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is discipline and consistency. Without those key elements, you will lose. I’ve lost the battle of losing weight several times by not focusing on those two critical things.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Never give up. Always keep trying. Keep moving your body, drink water, and love yourself no matter how big or small you are. Once you love yourself enough, you will take care of yourself both mentally and physically.
