Transformation of the Day: Leticia lost 61 pounds with healthy eating habits and exercise. Her journey started when her doctor put her on a liver shrinking diet in preparation for stomach hernia surgery. At 50 years young, she has learned that it’s never too late to change your lifestyle.
What was your motivation?
I found myself on this weight loss journey when I had to have surgery for a stomach hernia. My doctor told me I had an enlarged liver from being overweight. In addition to that, I have Lupus, and my health was rapidly declining. My doctor put me on a liver shrinking diet, which prompted me to take back control of my life. Over the course of a year, I’ve lost and maintained a weight loss of over 50 pounds.
How did you change your eating habits?
My doctor gave me a liver shrinking diet prior to surgery. I lost 11 pounds in two weeks by cutting out sugar and eating a low calorie, high protein diet. Getting great results prompted me to take on a lifestyle change. I still restrict sugar and make sure to get at least 65-70 grams of protein daily.
What did your workout routine consist of?
My workout routine consists of walking, stepper, and bike for cardio. I also incorporate weight training with weights and resistance bands.
How often did you workout?
I work out 3 – 5 days a week but take at least 10,000 steps daily.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight, which is the highest I’ve ever been, was 221 pounds. I currently weigh 160 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’6″.
When did you start your journey?
I started my weight loss journey in May 2019.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that it’s never too late to start. I’m 50 years old. Making positive lifestyle changes not only heals your body. It heals your mind and soul as well.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Start with attainable goals so that you don’t feel overwhelmed and get discouraged. As you grow stronger, your motivation will grow too.
One tip that worked wonders for me: Do not drink your calories. You’d be surprised by how many calories we consume simply with our drink choices. I drink at least 64 oz of water daily, and I no longer have cravings for pop/soda or sugary juices.
