Update Dec 2020: Charity lost 30 more lbs for a total of 113 pounds gone.
I’ve lost an additional 30 pounds bringing my total weight loss to 113 pounds!
Start Weight: 292 pounds
Current Weight: 179 pounds
How have you maintained your success and continued to make progress?
I’m still teaching and in grad school full time. However, I maintain a workout schedule of 5 days a week using Trap Cardio, Rowing, Running, and Strength Training to maintain and continue losing weight and building muscle.
Of the lessons you’ve learned on your journey, which one stands out the most at this point?
The biggest lesson that I have learned along my journey is that every day is a new opportunity to Be Better! It’s not about being the best or beating anybody else. It’s about bettering myself FOR MYSELF! This mentality has helped me with my nutrition, workouts, and my personal life!
Would you like to offer any new or different advice to women who want to lose weight?
The best advice I could give to anyone who is on their journey or looking to begin their wellness journey is to SET YOUR INTENTIONS on what you want to accomplish. Then make an effort to SHOW UP as the woman you want to see or become every day! @bebetter.fitness
Transformation of the Day: Charity lost 84 pounds by working out and becoming a Vegan. I’m a full-time teacher and Grad student, she figured out how to make her new lifestyle work with her busy schedule. The encouragement she received from friends and family helped keep her motivated.
Height: 5’9″
My Start weight: 292 pounds
My Current Weight: 208 pounds
My Goal Weight: 170 pounds
Over the past 15 months, I’ve lost over 80 pounds (and still going) through exercise and a vegan lifestyle. After 23 years of unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle choices, I decided that I wanted to try to take a step each day to better myself, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Eating Habits and Exercise: I began my journey in January 2019. I have transitioned to a completely Vegan lifestyle after eating a mostly meat/junk diet. I also learned that I was not eating enough of the right foods for my body! I’m a full-time teacher and Grad student, so I schedule my meals and workouts around my work schedule and classes.
As a newbie vegan, I get a lot of my inspiration for my meals from Pinterest! Some of my favorite recipes are Black Bean Burger with Sweet Potato Fries, Zucchini Meatballs and Spaghetti, and Vegan Chili.
My workouts consist of running about three times a week, Zumba (my favorite right now), and some weight and HIIT training! I generally workout about 4-5 days a week!
Motivation and Staying Inspired: One of the biggest things that motivated me and kept me going when I felt like giving up was the constant encouragement I received from my friends and family. Those compliments and words of love definitely were inspiring to me — especially when people told me that I was inspiring them to begin their journey to a better life.
Remembering that this is a journey and that mistakes aren’t final helped me to stay motivated during this process. I also highly suggest taking tons of photos for the days that you feel uninspired. Seeing my transformation thus far ALWAYS makes me want to kick it into high gear so I can see more results!
As I continue my journey, I’ve found that setting non-scale goals (goals that don’t depend on the scale number) and having people to hold you accountable are a few of the keys to success.
Advice: The biggest advice I have for women looking to lose weight would be to make sure that you are drinking enough water. You should drink about half your weight in ounces of water daily. Also, set non-scale victory goals so that even when you don’t see the success on the scale, you have other victories to keep you motivated.
Remember that every day is a step in your journey towards #BeingBetter!
