Transformation of the Day: Joanne lost 115 pounds. After her brother was killed, she used food to deal with her grief and gained a lot of weight. Knowing that her brother would want her to live a healthier life, she decided to change her eating habits and start exercising.
After my brother was killed in 2015, I was depressed. The grief became unbearable. Food was a huge source of comfort for me, and I ended up gaining a lot of weight. By November 2018, I weighed 315 pounds at the height of 5’7″.
I knew my brother wouldn’t have wanted me to live this way, so in December 2018, I decided to change my life. With healthy eating habits, a lot of walking, and cardio, I was able to lose 115 pounds. I know my brother is proud.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating sweets and drinking soda. I was careful with my portions and focused on eating vegetables and protein.
What was your workout routine?
I worked out at least 3-4 times a week. Most of my exercise routine consisted of walking.
What is your current weight?
With two years of hard work and determination, I currently weigh 200 pounds.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Throughout this weight loss journey, The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to love yourself no matter what and to take it one day at a time. There were moments when I wanted to give up. I’ve woke up not wanting to work out. I have craved all the comfort foods that I used to eat, like burgers and ice cream. Sometimes I did take a step back, but then I reminded myself of my goal and kept looking forward.
I also had a great support system. My mother and my youngest brother encouraged me by exercising with me and joining me in eating health as a family.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Set small goals for yourself and to find a good support system. Take it one day at a time and find what works for you. It’s okay to make mistakes and fall back sometimes, as long as you get back on track.
