Transformation of the Day: Nikki lost 50 pounds. She refused to let high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes stop her from living a long life, and seeing her kids grow up. With VSG surgery and healthy habits, she was able to release the weight and get off of five medications.
What was your motivation?
When my weight started affecting my health, I knew it was time for a BIG change. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and I became a diabetic, taking two meds for it plus insulin. I have three kids who I want to see grow up, so I decided it was time for a change.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My highest weight that I can recall was 223 pounds. On July 29, 2019, I had VGS weight loss surgery (vertical gastric sleeve). On my surgery date, I weighed 217 pounds. I was on at least 5 different medications. Today I weigh 167 pounds, and I am no longer considered a diabetic. I am on no drugs whatsoever.
How did you change your eating habits after surgery?
Portion control was a big change for me. Eating a balanced diet and cutting out fast food was also a significant change. I cut out all the sugary foods I was eating and started adding more salads and fruits to my routine.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I have an office job and didn’t really exercise much at all initially. Now, I walk around the building on my breaks and workout 2-3 times per week.
What is your height?
5’4”
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Weight loss is a journey. I didn’t wake up with this extra weight on me overnight, so I can’t expect it to fall off overnight.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Don’t be hard on yourself. Also, be sure to celebrate the small milestones.
I am a Masterpiece in the making. Now, watch me work.
