Transformation of the Day: Emonica lost 58 pounds. Her husband Marcus wrote to us to share his wife’s success story. She got results with a low carb, high protein diet paired with lots of exercise and lots of patience.
What was your motivation?
I was tired of not fitting into my clothes. I was tired of not wanting to go out because I gained so much weight. I was tired of not being able to wear the clothes that I like because they don’t make them in my size.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
Me! I am human, so I have bumpy days when I want that cheesecake or pancakes. Sometimes, I give in, and sometimes I don’t. However, I never give up. Due to my genetics, I know that for the rest of my life, I will have to work at my goals and my goal weight.
How did you change your eating habits?
I detoxed from carbs for 7 days and then kept my carbs low. I ate no more than 24g of sugar a day. I eat a high protein diet and drink lots of water.
What foods did you stop or start eating?
I stopped eating pasta, rice, and bread. I only eat lean protein, and I have a minimal amount of fruits and vegetables. I used to work for a program called Medi Weight Loss, so I used their model as an example, but I’ve made the plan my own.
What did your workout routine look like?
I work out five times a week, doing 1 hour of cardio. I go for a walk somewhere far, like 3 miles away sometimes. I also exercise with my trainer two times a week. During this journey, I’ve worked out with 2 two different trainers, @almighty fitness and @dontwalkcrawl.
How often did you work out?
Three to five times a week, sometimes twice depending on how I feel.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 312 pounds, and my current weight is 254 lbs.
What is your height?
5’5″
When did you start your journey?
April 2018
How long did your transformation take?
I am still working on it. My goal weight is 185 lbs.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I have never had surgery.
What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned so far?
Nothing happens overnight, and not giving up is the key, even if you fall.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Start somewhere. It’s not easy, but you can do it. It’s not going to happen quickly, but it will happen. Just don’t give up and take it one day at a time.
