Transformation of the Day: Janillia lost 114 pounds. After a divorce, she just wanted to be healthy for herself as well as her daughter. She learned to face the things that were holding her back and sought out help to release the weight, leading her to have Gastric Sleeve surgery last year. Check out her story.
My journey began five years ago, in 2014, when I realized I reached 310 pounds. At that moment, I knew it was time to get healthy. Not only for me but for my family as well.
I consulted my doctor. She recommended appetite suppression and gave me additional resources. I tried to make progress on my own but found myself failing, and I gave up. I completely gave up because I felt defeated. Years later, I went through a divorce. It was after learning to deal with my demons that I sought help. I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) weight loss surgery on September 24, 2018. I’ve successfully joined the losers bench! Today, I’m down 96 pounds post-op and 114 pounds in total. I’m excited about my future and enjoying my new lifestyle.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My daughter. After my divorce, I thought I’d already failed her and didn’t want to fail her again. I want to live a healthy lifestyle for myself and her.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating McDonald’s and stopped drinking soda. I consistently meal prep. Meal prepping helps me track calories and control my portions. It has worked best for me as nutrition is the key to weight loss.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I took Zumba classes. I also did weight lifting/strengthening training and running (2-3 miles per workout). I work out 3-4 days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 310 pounds, and my current weight is 196 pounds.
What is your height?
5’5″
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that I’m not perfect! I make mistakes. However, I must be accountable for them and get back on track when I fall off.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Stay positive, and do your research. If you decide to use weight loss surgery as a tool, do what’s best for you! Take your time. This is not a race!
