Transformation of the Day: Pamela lost 23 pounds and several dress sizes. After the devastating loss of her first grandchild, food provided comfort in the midst of her grief. A few years later, a pre-diabetes diagnosis motivated her to start her weight loss journey. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
After losing my granddaughter Skyler in 2015, grief overtook my life. She was my 1st grandchild, and she passed away at 7 1/2 months. I could not show that I was grieving or depressed because I had to be strong for my family. Thus, food became my escape.
At almost 5 feet, 9 inches tall, I thought nobody could tell I gained weight. Before I knew it, I was in a size14. I hated the way I looked and felt. Fast forward to 2018: I went in for a check-up, and my doctor told me that my lab work showed I was pre-diabetic. That was my wakeup call!
How did you change your eating habits?
I went cold turkey: no meat, no sweets, no bread, and no pasta. I cut meat out of my diet on July 6th because my body took a long time to digest it. Now, I’m a pescatarian, and I love it!
What was your workout routine?
I started walking every day. Little by little, the weight starting coming off. Now, I work out three times a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
At my heaviest, I weighed 198 pounds, and currently, I weigh 175 pounds. As I noted, I was wearing a size 14, and now I wear a size 9/10.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson for me was to not be so hard on myself. If I have a day where I fall off, it’s okay.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t go into it trying to look like somebody else.
– Ask yourself, “What is my why?” Find out your purpose for wanting to lose weight.
– Write down your short term goals regarding your weight loss. (For example, “Where do I want to be in a month?”)
– Have patience. It doesn’t happen overnight.
-Be disciplined and hold yourself accountable
– Last but not least, don’t give up.
