I was inspired by so many women of the who have shared their stories on your Instagram page. Now, I would like to share mine. I’m a 36-year-old mother of two handsome young boys (13 years old and 19 months old), and I work as a Registered Nurse.
I have battled with losing weight since having my 2nd child in 2017. It was a long and complicated pregnancy. The photo on the left was me in October 2018, and the picture on the right is me today (June 16, 2019). I’ve overcome a lot of unfortunate circumstances during the past year, and as a result, my physical health suffered.
Food was my weapon of choice for coping. It was depressing to look in the mirror at who I had become, and I desperately wanted to change what I saw. In March 2019, I decided to shift my focus back to me and regain control over my life.
Today, I’m down 23 pounds and still working. I began my journey wearing a size 14, and now I’m between a size 8 and a size 10.
My children needed me more than the grave. Every day I prayed that God would help me to be better than I was the day before. I invested in myself by joining the gym (shoutout to Curtis Starks at Train & Burn), and I slowly progressed towards my goals. This journey hasn’t been easy because I love carbs, and I hate cardio.
How did you change your eating habits?
Changing my eating habits was tough because I’m a foody by nature, and my mom is an excellent cook. I started being more conscious and limiting my portions. I cut out sodas and sweets and limited my carbs to one meal per day. I don’t use a specific diet because I’ve failed miserably so many times in the past.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I worked out with my personal trainer, and my sessions consist of cardio and weight training. I work three times per week.
What is your height?
5’6″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson is trusting the process and maintaining consistency. In the past, I’d easily get discouraged after 2 or 3 weeks of working out.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Believe in your ability to achieve your weight loss goals. The process is not easy, but it’s worth it.
I’ll say to anyone who is facing difficulties; Stand boldly on God’s word and HANG IN THERE! No matter how severe life’s storms my seem, they are only temporary. James 5:16, “The prayers of a righteous man availeth much.” To God, be the Glory!
