Transformation of the Day: Char lost 84 pounds with Keto. This young lady wanted to avoid a family history of ailments, like high blood pressure and diabetes. When she wasn’t seeing results and became frustrated during her journey, she pushed through. Her hard work paid off. Check out her story.
I began my ketogenic journey on April 27, 2018. In the beginning, I honestly had no clue. Like many, I had heard rumors of a low carb, high-fat way of eating that worked, so I thought I should give it a try. (When I initially started Keto, I didn’t know it was called “Keto.”) I began my journey at 270 pounds and a height of 5 foot 7 inches. I started by cutting out complex carbs and by incorporating fat into my diet through fatty proteins, oils, and butter on my protein and veggies.
I ran into trouble and became super frustrated. I was not losing any weight! I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I definitely wanted to give up and just eat everything, but something told me to stick with Keto. What was the alternative? Keep yo-yo dieting and failing miserably? Try another fad diet and pray I got results this time? As I did more research, I discovered macronutrients and how to utilize them to help me lose weight.
I haven’t worked out during my journey. My results are solely from embracing a Keto diet, but I plan on starting weight training this month.
My family history played a large part in my quest to be healthier. My father passed away from stage 4 colon cancer at age 50. Also, I have a maternal and paternal family history of the leading comorbidities: hypertension, strokes, type 2 diabetes, cancer, high cholesterol, and heart failure.
A year later, I have managed to lose 84 pounds and maintain my success. I currently weigh 186 pounds. The benefits? I am no longer clinically depressed, and I no longer suffer from bouts of anxiety. I have increased energy, and I get to live my best life in my best body. These are just a few of my many benefits.
The biggest lesson I have learned on my weight loss journey is that it truly takes time. You can’t rush weight loss or results. You have to dig deep and keep going!
My advice for other women who want to lose weight: Have a solid plan and stick to it, no matter what. Even if you are not losing weight at the speed you want to, keep going, and keep making small changes over time. Believe me, they add up!
