We have been following Kimberly‘s story since 2017 when she lost 90 pounds. She is still going strong, but now she’s focused on total body wellness. She no longer uses the scale as the measure of her progress. Check out her story.
I have shifted my focus from weight loss to health and wellness. I began to do intermittent fasting for a cycle of 3 months at a time. I would eat from 10am-6pm. I was still eating my daily calories but only doing so within that time frame. This allowed my body to lose fat, not necessarily pounds.
I diversified my workouts: Weight training with heavy weights for fat loss and muscle sculpting. Hot Pilates for a full body, high-intensity workout. Zumba for my cardiovascular health and endurance.
I also began doing yoga. I found so much peace in yoga. I can’t say enough about how beneficial this practice has been to my mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Shifting my focus from the singular vision of weight loss to overall wellness has been amazing. I just turned 36, and I have never been in better internal and external health. No cholesterol problems, no hypertension, or diabetic threats, and to top it off as I was told I have”perfect blood pressure.”
I was a size 24/26 at the start of my journey. I am currently a 10/12 at the top and a 14 on the bottom. (Pear shaped problems lol) I try to stay off of the scale and use non-scale means as a way to track progress. I absolutely love my waist beads. They let me know if I’m overeating and if they drop, that means my body is on track. The lower they get, that means the smaller I’ve gotten.
I genuinely want black women to stop seeking answers in products. I know that might piss off a few people who sell them, but so often I see women searching for a product… something to make them sweat more, something that will target belly fat.
We really have to shift our mindset from products and weight loss to total wellness. You can lose all of the weight you want, but if you haven’t repaired what hurt you, you will still be unhappy.
Everyone talks about securing the bag. Weight loss is great, but wellness is the real bag to secure. The body being aligned mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically is better than gold. Some women can look like the picture of health, yet stress has their blood pressure through the roof. It is not enough to appear healthy. We must be healthy. We must do the work for our health. No product can sustain your journey. The only thing that will sustain a journey is a lifestyle change.
