Transformation of the Day: Shavon lost 92 pounds. Her health was in decline due to many ailments, including high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and PCOS. By transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle, she was able to improve her health and release the weight. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My biggest motivation for getting healthy and losing weight was my declining health. At 35 years old, my health was beginning to fail. I was faced with high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, PCOS (including irregular menstrual cycles), fatty liver, aching joints, panic attacks, extreme fatigue, anxiety and a host of other ailments. Not to mention being very disgusted with the way I looked and uncomfortable at 332 pounds. I wanted to feel good and look young, vibrant and sexy again.
What inspired me the most when I wanted to give up was my concern for my health. Of course, I wanted to look good but FEELING good was most important. I knew that if I gave up totally I would feel like a complete failure and all of my hard work would be in vain and I’d go right back to feeling miserable and horrible again.
How did you change your eating habits? What was your exercise routine?
Initially I cut all fried foods, carbs and sweets. I began to hit the gym 5 to 6 days a week. As time progressed and I lost my initial 55lbs, I noticed that my weight became stagnant. To overcome the plateau, I started searching for helpful alternatives to jumpstart my weight loss again. At that point, I took to a pescatarian diet, giving up all meat but seafood.
After months of research and educating myself of the health and food industry, I slowly transitioned to a vegetarian lifestyle totally giving up all meat. From there I began to slowly transition to a vegan/plant-based diet which excludes all dairy and meat products.
I have been most successful with my health and losing weight by adopting a plant-based diet, along with Intermittent fasting and various other types of fasting practices. Now, I workout 5-6 days a week with light cardio along with training my arms and legs.
When did you start your journey?
I initially started my journey on January 23, 2017, at 332 pounds. I currently weigh 240lbs at 5’7″. My ultimate goal is to get to 199 pounds. (I’ve never been under 200lbs in my adult life, so that’s a Huge goal) I hope to be there by May 2019. This will be my birthday gift to me.
My journey did not happen overnight. I have had many ups and downs, and times I wanted to stop, give up and quit… But I have a GREAT support system. Along with them and much prayer and dedication, I have conquered so many of my goals. I now enjoy my newly found lifestyle and wouldn’t trade it or my health for anything. I have so much fun creating new recipes and sharing them with people.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I have learned to NEVER NEVER give up on your weight loss goals and to stay off the scale as much as possible.
What advice would you like to share?
Relax and enjoy the journey. Always make sure you’re doing it for YOURSELF and no one else.
