Dio lost 21 pounds/9.8 kilos. She reached out to us from Holland to share her story. She is using the One Meal a Day method to release the weight. Love and support from her daughter helped her stay motivated and focused. Check out her journey.
I started my weight loss journey on October 30, 2018, by practicing OMAD (One Meal A Day – a form of intermittent fasting). Yes, I eat one meal a day and share photos of almost all my meals on my Instagram. I have lost 9.8 kilos (21.6 pounds) and almost 10cm off my waist. I love good food. With this lifestyle, I can still eat what I want.
What was your motivation?
I knew that I gained weight because my clothing didn’t fit. However, I didn’t want to accept it. I was in denial until my daughter (15 years old) told me I didn’t look healthy anymore and that I needed to start eating healthier. That moment was an eye-opener. I knew it was time for a change.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
In the beginning, it was a struggle not to give up, but I asked my daughter to text me every day to tell me that I can do it. That helped me so much through the first week. I wanted to make her proud.
How did you change your eating habits?
I went from eating what I wanted when I wanted to just one meal a day that is as healthy as possible. However, I’m still enjoying things I love now and then, like pizza and chocolate. I have no food restrictions. I try to eat as clean as possible, but if I want to have a piece of chocolate with my meal, I do. I’ve been eating one meal a day for almost 95 days now.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I started working out during the last four weeks. I do fitness in combination with 20 minutes on the treadmill or StairMaster. I work out 3 times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 81.9 kilos/180.5 pounds. My current weight is 72.1 kilos/158.9 pounds. My height is 1.64 meters/5’4″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned that it’s not an easy journey and that you need support from others to get there.
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Discover what works the best for you. Find something that is sustainable for the long term and hold on to that.
