Camille lost 35 pounds. A photographic wakeup call is what inspired her to take action. She kicked off her journey by cutting out takeout, alcohol and sugar for 30 days. She also went from walking for exercise to running in 6 weeks. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
I was inspired to lose weight right after I saw the photo on the left. I clearly remember that I had 3 Patron margaritas, loaded cheese fries, and a burger. I had absolutely no regard for portion control or moderation. I remember my friend showing me this picture, and I couldn’t believe how much weight I gained.
How did you change your eating habits?
I remember taking the first step by cutting out all processed foods out. I committed to no takeout, no liquor, no sugar for 30 days. It was not easy in the beginning, but I knew I had to lose weight to improve my health.
Tell us about your workout routine?
My workout routine consisted of morning walks 4 to 5 days a week using the MapMyWalk app and the NikeRun app. I slowly but surely walked briskly, then jogged and then became a runner in less than 6 weeks!
Starting weight/current weight
My starting weight was 183 pounds. My current weight is 148 pounds at 5’4″. I lost the weight in less than 3 months with consistent workouts, lots of fruits and vegetables and healthy choices throughout the week. I also had one treat a week, which was typically a small cup of ice cream or a few cookies (Serving size only. That’s it! Throw the bag away if you have to. Lol.) You enjoy treats more when you actually “treat yourself.”
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned is that the body craves nutrients. It has to give you energy, strength, and you have to stay focused. Give your body nutritional food most of the time, and you will see significant changes in your skin, energy, and attitude.
What advice would you like to share with other people who want to lose weight?
Meal preparation is essential. Make your meals at home. Include green vegetables, like spinach, kale, broccoli or cauliflower, in your meals as well as lean meats or meat substitutes, like black bean burgers or fish for protein. Try packed snacks like nuts, fruit, and yogurt instead of cookies, chips, and crackers. Also, sip on water throughout the day. Buy a 1-liter water bottle. Ditch coffee entirely if you can or minimize the sugar indefinitely. Water speeds up your metabolism and helps you burn calories.
It really just takes small steps to take to add up to actual weight loss. Take the steps instead of elevators. Park far from the mall so you can walk further. Walk on weekends with the kids or a friend… or walk alone with good music in your ears.
Lastly, my advice at parties, gatherings, etc. is say “no” most of the time. (Not all of the time.) It’s mind over matter! Use the 80/20 rule.
Go for it. It’s your choice! You hold the key!
