Transformation of the Day: Caperella lost 112 pounds. After weight loss surgery, the pounds still kept coming back. She found that the only thing that worked for her was eating the Ketogenic way and working out in the gym. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
My life became my full motivation. A desire to live motivated me, especially after losing a few people I know who were my age when they passed. It scared me.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
To be honest, there were times when I gave up, and nothing inspired me. Now I am totally different; I am inspired by the way I feel inside. I am inspired each time I am able to cross my legs with ease. Enjoying that feeling pushes me to keep going.
I can’t forget to mention the people who push me and tell me that I am an inspiration to them. Their words keep me going. I know that someone is watching and depending on your example to keep going.
When did you start your journey?
In 2009, I had Gastric Bypass weight loss surgery. In 2011, I had to have an emergency hysterectomy, and all the weight I lost came back. I battled back and forward with the same 10lbs for 4 years, until I started eating low carb. I still didn’t get my best results until I began to eat the ketogenic way.
How did you change your eating habits?
When I originally started this journey in February 2009, I began with traditional diets, shakes, pills, weight watchers… any and everything on the market. In May 2015, I decided to try a low carb diet, and that was working well for me. I was committed until the death of my uncle. I used that as an excuse not to care and to eat lots of foods that were not low carb. I let the self-pity party last for a year and a half.
Fast forward to February 2018; I won a Keto coaching class. I started the course a day before my 44th birthday. Someone else’s money paid for the class, so I had to give it my all. I’ve been keto ever since. I removed carbs, sugar, grains, and other toxic ingredients from my diet. My diet is a high fat (healthy fats), moderate protein, and low carb way of eating.
What did your workout routine look like?
When I started, I did not work out. As of August 2018, I workout daily. I use all the weight machines in my gym, as well as the treadmill and Stairmaster. You can catch me making my own routine in the stretching area or using free weights.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
In 2009, before I had weight loss surgery, I weighed 296 pounds. When I began eating keto in March 2018, I weighed 221.2 pounds. My current weight is 183.4 pounds and my height is 5’3″. My transformation is still a work in progress. I’m 9 years into the full journey and 6 months into my keto journey.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I will keep this as short as I can. I’ve learned that I DO have all power and control. Food is not a healer. I am not addicted to food. I’ve also learned not to rush weight loss. I take it one day at a time and trust the process.
You have to love yourself regardless. Your journey is not theirs! Stop comparing yourself to others. We are all different people. Everyone will not be excited about your journey, and that’s ok. Applaud yourself and wait for no one.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Get your mind right first. Remain focused and do not look for a quick way out. Don’t expect a change in one week. Take your time and enjoy the little changes, no matter how small.
