Transformation of the Day: Jareda lost 94 pounds. She is confident, stylish and never had a problem with her weight, until she found out that she had prediabetes and high blood pressure. Gastric Sleeve surgery, MyFitnessPal and walking are some of the tools she used to release the pounds.
I’m 33 years of age. I’ve been bigger all my life but never thought of it as a problem because my weight never went over 300lbs. I felt fine, had no health issues, had lots of confidence, and I dressed stylishly, so I felt good.
Imagine my surprise when I went to my doctor and found out that not only did I tip the scales at 310 pounds (which is CRAZY since I’m only 5’3″), but I was prediabetic, and my blood pressure was high. I was devastated. It took that realization to make me kick into gear and drop the weight.
On January 22, 2018, I underwent weight loss surgery. I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Today I’m a HEALTHIER. 94 pounds down and counting. I work out, drink a ton of water and just try my best to have a positive disposition.
How did you change your eating habits?
Initially, I had to lose weight in order to have the surgery. To lose weight, I upped my water intake majorly. I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app and logged my foods I ate each day. The app gives you a caloric intake goal for the day. I would try to have more than 70 ounces of water daily. I also switched to snacking on fruits and veggies instead of chips (which are my weakness lol.) I stopped eating a lot of fried foods and focused on protein and vegetables. I did limit a lot of carbs and only ate until I felt full.
What did you do in terms of exercise?
After surgery, I did lot of walking to stay active. I love dancing and swimming too. I walked very often, and I would try to make sure to use an incline on the treadmill at the gym.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far after having the surgery is to do things ON YOUR OWN ACCORD! Try not to compare yourself to others as they aren’t you! Everybody is DIFFERENT! What works for you may not work for the next person.
What advice do you have for other women who want to lose weight?
GO FOR IT! Believe in yourself! There will be many naysayers and people who will doubt you and your determination. Keep pushing forward though in spite of them because your health and overall well being are the most important things.
