Transformation of the Day: Autumn lost 37 pounds. She believes that being healthy is part of God’s plan for her life. This educator also wanted to be a healthy example for her students and avoid a family history of illnesses, like diabetes and hypertension. She learned that this journey takes hard work, but “you won’t grow if you don’t get out of your comfort zone.” Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was believing that God wanted me to live a healthy life and have a bright future. I thought about how I want to become a wife and a mother… and be around for my family. My family has a history of cardiac dysthymias, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and stroke. I know I cannot run away from genetics, but I can do everything in my power to ensure that I am as healthy as possible. I also work as an educator and wanted to be a positive example of a healthy life for my students. When I wanted to give up, I would envision what my progress would look like. Would I rather quit now because I’m frustrated or cry out of happiness in 3 months when I fit into my dream dress?!
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by meal prepping. I would plan out my entire menu for the week and then grocery shop. I would buy only whole grains, fruit, vegetables, lean meats, yogurt and protein bars. I cut out chips, cookies, pies, cakes, fried foods and all fast food. Now, I have one cheat meal per week.
What did your workout routine look like?
I worked out one hour a day, 5-6 times per week. I used the Jillian Michaels app and would alternate between cardio and strength training. I found it was easier to work out in the morning because it gave me energy at work.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 180 pounds and my current weight is 143 pounds. My height is 5’6”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my weight loss journey in late October 2017. On June 16th, 2018, I’d officially lost 35 pounds. My official goal is to lose at total of 50 pounds, so I still have a some more to go.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned, despite how cheesy, is that the best things in life do not come easy. You have to get up and do the work if you actually want results. I guess what I am saying is that you won’t grow if you don’t get out of your comfort zone.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Don’t lose weight because you feel pressure from anyone else. The weight will come off when you decide that you are worth it. When you realize that you deserve to be healthy and live as long as you can, that’s when the weight loss begins.
