Transformation of the Day: Sabrina lost 79 pounds, going from a size 24 to a size 16. After stepping on a scale in the gym at her workplace, she got the wakeup call she needed. She realized just how much she was ignoring her health, so she began to make small, practical changes that have led to major progress. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
One day at work, I went to our gym to get some water at the ice machine. I knew I had picked up some weight, but I was shocked when I stepped on the gym’s scale and the screen read 315 pounds. This was the heaviest I’d ever been. This was also a few years after leaving an abusive relationship. I had been totally ignoring my health. Instead, I was solely focused on trying to regain everything, financially and materialistically, that I’d lost during that time. My health had taken a complete back seat in my life.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started changing my eating habits drastically after seeing that weight, becuase I was afraid of the number on the scale. I began by using My Fitness Pal to figure out how many calories I was consuming each day. Then, I set a daily calorie goal of 1,800. I made sure I had a calorie deficit each day of at least 500 calories or more. I incorporated more fresh fruits and vegetables into my diet. I rarely eat any red meat anymore, and I stopped eating pork. Instead, I eat lean meats, like fish, chicken and turkey burgers.
What did your workout routine look like?
I started using the gym at my job, which was free. I also used the gym at my apartment complex. I started off small, with doing 20-40 minutes of exercise a day. Once I could endure more, I started doing 45 minutes to an hour and worked out twice a day. I did, and still do, a variety of exercises. I do cardio, weight training, HIIT, ab exercises and squats just to name a few.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 315 pounds and I currently weigh 236 pounds. I went from a size 24 to a size 16 in clothes. My height is 5’7″. I’m still on my journey and my goal weight is 190 pounds.
When did you start your journey?
I started around the middle of January 2017.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I’ve learned patience and to take care of myself first. I ignored and neglected my health for years. I was blessed that it didn’t affect me in terms of having a more serious condition.
What advice would you give to women who want to lose weight?
To any ladies that are struggling to lose weight, I encourage you to get up and make changes! Even if it’s small, anything is better than what you were doing before. Have patience with yourself and your body. You will hit some rough patches but the end results are worth it, so don’t give up on yourself!
