Transformation of the Day: Kenisha lost 48 pounds, going from a size 16 to a size 6. After turning 40, she decised that it was time to get healthy, stay healthy and avoid a family history of diabetes and hypertension. Check out how she changed her lifestyle and released the weight.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was to get healthy and stay healthy. After turning 40 and being disgusted with the way I looked, I knew it was time for a permanent change. My mother has diabetes, hypertension and had 2 strokes. I wanted to avoid that at all costs, so that was my main inspiration for quitting my unhealthy lifestyle.
How did you change your eating habits?
I generally already ate healthy, but I cut out eating a lot of meat. I also cut out fried foods. I began replacing a meal or two each day with a smoothie and fasting from time to time.
What did your workout routine look like?
I joined a private gym and started taking 2 cardio classes a week. For 2 months, I didn’t lose any weight. Then, I started to incorporate weight training twice a week along with cardio. I would take Zumba, Pound and kickboxing classes. Eventually, I upped my workouts to at least 4 days in the gym instead of only 2.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 211 pounds and my current weight is 163 pounds. My height is 5’2″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in March 2017 and it took a year to lose the weight. I went from a size 16 to a 6.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
To stay consistent with what I am doing and realize that this is a lifestyle, not a fad.
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Don’t give up! It won’t happen overnight because you didn’t gain it overnight. If you put your all into it, you will see the rewards.
