Transformation of the Day: Simone lost 36 pounds and transformed her body. This proud mother of two just wanted to be happy with the way she looked. She was also interested in competing in bodybuilding. Through her journey, she learned that you can’t underestimate the power of nutrition when it comes to getting results. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What kept you from giving up during the tough times?
What motivated me to lose weight was my unhappiness with my appearance.
I never gave up because I was inspired by how good I felt. The progress pictures I took twice a month motivated me to keep going. I also wanted to compete in a bodybuilding competition. All I kept thinking was that I definitely didn’t want to be on stage in a bikini looking terrible AND being judged.
How did you change your eating habits?
I replaced my sugar filled snacks (chips, pretzels, cookies) with fruits, veggies and almonds. I had less carbs and added MORE veggies and fish to my meals.
What did your workout routine look like?
I did fasted cardio 5 days a week in the mornings and did weight training three times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight at 5’9″ was 190 and I went down to 154. I lost a total of 36 pounds and didn’t have any surgery.
How long did your transformation take?
It took me a total of 5 months to lose the weight completely.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to be 100% dedicated to your diet and your exercise routine equally. I remember that I’d slack on my diet and just increase my days at the gym, but I achieved very few changes that way. Once I took my diet just as serious as exercise, I saw dramatic changes. You can’t out run a bad diet.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
My advice to anyone who wants to lose weight is to focus fully on what you eat and change that first. Make sure you’re at a caloric deficit and get comfortable with your new eating habits. Focus on nutrition and then find a workout that’s suited for YOU. There are so many options available, but pick the one that’ll make you get up and move (Zumba, kickboxing, crossfit, yoga, group fitness classes, etc). Don’t get a gym membership at the local gym just to walk on the treadmill. Instead, look into the fitness centers that have amazing exercise classes.
