I am Gugu Mema. I’m a 30 year old mother of a 3 year old from Johannesburg. South Africa. My before photo is from January 2017 and my after photo is from October 2017. I started exercizing again in May 2017, because I wanted to get in my pre-baby jeans by July 18th, which is my birthday. I failed to hit the target then but I fit unto them now.
What was your motivation?
I went through post-partum depression that was made worse by my doctor banning me from going back to working out immediately after baby. I wanted to get back to my before baby body. My child is turning three years old this month. I had complications with my C-section and the doctor stopped me from working out too much for close to two years. I just got fat and lazy.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I knewI could look my best if I put in the work because I had done it before. I refused to buy bigger than size 14 in clothes. My stepmom is 46 and she is banging hot. I could not let myself look fat with such a hot mother.
How did you change your eating habits?
I did not change much. I kick started my journey by blending all my food into liquid in the beginning. Now, I just eat solids. I stopped eating white rice, mealie meal pap and cut down on the lays and chocolates. I cheat a lot, but I also workout very hard. I’m a maniac at the gym.
What did your workout routine look like?
At first, I ran 3 times a week. Now, I workout 5-6 times a week. I started with running around the blocks in my residential estate. At first, I could not do more than 2km. Now, I do 10-12km easy. Eventually, I went back to gym and started incorporating spinning and weight training.
When did you start your journey?
May 2017
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I can do anything. I cam run 20km if I really set my to it.
