Transformation of the Day: Dominique lost 63 pounds. In 2014, she had success, but later gained the weight back. However, she didn’t give up. In 2016, she restarted her journey. Essential to her success was going Keto, committing to regular exercise and changing her mindset. Check out her story.
My story was originally featured by BWLW on March 29, 2014. At that time, I’d lost 32 pounds and was on cloud nine. That was really something to be proud of. Fast forward to 2015/2016… Yep, I gained all of that 32 pounds back, plus a little more. Talk about a major set back.
I had my final wake up call on February 7, 2016. I was pushing almost 230 pounds. I often asked myself, “Where did I go wrong?” I was on the right path and then life slapped me in the face. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, I took action and went in full force. Fast forward to now and I’m proud to say that I’ve lost 60 pounds… which is almost double than before.
How did I do it? I changed my mindset. It took me years to realize that no matter how many times I lost weight, the reason why I never kept it off was because I wasn’t mentally invested in my journey. I was always losing weight for the wrong reasons, even when I tried to convince myself otherwise. Yes, we all know that diet and exercise is the major key to weight loss, but in order to keep that weight off and maintain you have to have the right mindset.
For about a year or so, I followed a strict ketogenic diet and exercised faithfully. Instead of the traditional gym sessions, I joined a bootcamp group which I enjoyed more than the gym. Just recently, I had to change my way of eating habits due to GERD, a nut allergy, and dairy/soy intolerance. Lately, I’ve been eating more vegetarian/vegan meals, which has been working well for me. Keto did not cause any of these issues. I want to make that clear. Because of Keto, I was able to get off of my blood pressure medication. My primary focus is no longer about losing weight, but more so about my gut health and toning my body.
Since that day in February 2016, I told myself, “I don’t care how long it takes. I will lose weight, change my lifestyle and keep the pounds off forever”. I’m proud to say I’m doing just that. I’m 5’4″ and I weigh 167 pounds. I went from a size 16 to a size 8 in a year and 7 months. This is my #foreverjourney and I’ve come too far to give up now.
For anyone who’s on a weight loss journey: No matter how many times you fall off the wagon you can always get back on and continue down the road towards success. My journey has not been easy and I’ve fell off the wagon multiple times.
Anything is possible if you change the way you view food and exercise. Yes, diet and exercise is important but you have to be mentally prepared as well; especially for those tough days. Always remember that YOU GOT THIS! Stay consistent and have patience.
