Update 2018: Brianna lost 52 more pounds since we featured her in October 2017 for a total of 132 pounds gone.
After my feature post, I continued to eat clean by eating lean protein, complex carbs in proper portions and before midday, and lots of vegetables (using portion control). I continued to work with Reggie C Fitness in Houston, Texas. For the first 5 months, my workout revolved around bootcamp style workouts and HIIT training, along with some targeted group training referred to as “We Got Goals” at our gym. During WGG we integrate HIIT training with strength and conditioning using a lot of free weights.
My workout also changed around October 2017, I started to integrate small group training (at the same training facility which focuses on strength training), and total body toning using exercise machines and weights using heavier weight. To complete my 11 month/140lbs down transform, on January 1st of 2018 I started the 90 day transformation challenge at my gym. This fitness challenge encompasses all aspects of the Reggie C Fitness training to achieve accelerated fitness results. I started that challenge at 187 pounds (having already lost 100lbs) and 34 % body fat. I ended the 90 day challenge at 25% body fat, down 147lbs total. The end of the challenge marked my 11th month on my weight loss journey that started on May 1, 2017. My current weight is about 155 pounds and I end another challenge on June 30th.
The advice I would share at this point is that the journey comes with so many ups and downs, but it’s really important to take those in and find the deeper meaning or the life lesson being taught. Also, weight loss comes with many critiques from others, good and bad. Stand strong in who you are. Self preservation is key in the mist of the comments. You know who you are and where your going. Full commitment is the only way to get full results. Keep working till the image of the person you want to see becomes your reality.

Transformation of the Day: Brianna lost 80 pounds in 4 1/2 months. For years, she endured comments about her weight gain from family. She could feel herself slipping into depression, and she was listed as morbidly obese by her doctor. It was time to take action. She joined a local training program that stresses clean eating and got awesome results. Check out what she shared with us about her transformation.
I was embarrassed to attend family gatherings or run into people I knew. ALL my life, my family has commented on my weight whether I’d gained or lost. This time, they would just stare in totally shock every time I visited. I actually told my brother my weight, and he said, “Tootie, you weigh more than me. How?”
I felt myself slipping back into feelings of depression similar to what I experienced in 2011 when I had to withdraw from my senior year of undergrad. I knew my situation was serious when my doctor put the words “morbid obesity”under active conditions in my medical profile. At the time, I simply went in to see the doctor for a respiratory infection.
I knew it was now or never, so I fully committed. In May 2017, I joined Reggie C Fitness of Houston, TX. The program focus on clean eating, weekly cardio, boot camp classes and coaching by my fabulous coach Sha Randle. I workout 5-7 days a week.
Eating clean required me to minimize my salt and sugar intake in all forms, including fruit. Also, I cut out healthy high fat foods during my weight loss period, such as avocado and nuts. All processed food were eliminated as well. I only ate fresh or frozen food. My meals are made up of lean meats, veggies and limited amounts of carbs. Lastly, potion control and eating 4-5 times of day was required.
On May 1, 2017, my weight was 287 pounds at 5’3″. By the end of July, I’d lost 60 pounds. As of Sept 16, 2017, I weigh 207 pounds.
Now, I want to be an example to my students and the black community, where statistically we have been told we are the most unhealthy. I also want to inspire others, especially my mom. I refuse to have the same habits that got me to nearly 300 pounds. I am committed to breaking the cycle.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that your journey is not always for you. It may also be for the people you will inspire along the way.
My advice is to fully commit to a change before giving up on it. You may also have to sacrifice in areas you don’t want to, but your health is worth it. Remove all excuses and make pathways to start your journey.
