Transformation of the Day: Layshae lost 52 pounds. Since she was pursuing a career in the medical field, she wanted a healthier lifestyle. Even though her personal life and career got in the way at times, she never gave up. She restarted her journey this year by going Keto and working out regularly. Check out what she shared with us.
In 2015, I attempted a weight loss journey with a goal of losing 100 pounds. However, after losing 40 pounds, I allowed my personal life and career to distract me. Before I knew it, I gained the 40 pounds back, plus 20 more pounds. Ironically, it was all a surprise to me because I didn’t see the 60 extra pounds when I looked in the mirror.
This year, I decided to go to medical school. I wanted to make sure that I led a healthier lifestyle and looked healthier if I was going to be in the medical field. My before picture was taken on my Day One in March 2017. My sister and I decided that we would start by walking on the trail in our city. Even when the photo was taken, I was surprised to see all that the camera had captured. I couldn’t believe that the woman in the picture was me!
I decided to go back to the Keto diet. Daily, I have 40 grams of carbs maximum. I also have 40 grams of protein with each meal.
For exercise, I worked out 4-5 times a week. If possible, I would do Zumba/hip hop classes.
My starting weight was 320 pounds, and my current weight is 268 pounds. My height is 5’7″. My initial goal is still to release 100 pounds, but my overall goal would be to lose 140 pounds at the rate of approx. 10 pounds a month (2-3 pounds each week).
Throughout this journey, I have plateaued and battled with the temptation to not only cheat, but completely give up and go back to my old habits. What kept me motivated were pages like Black Women Losing Weight and bloggers such as Thick Chick Vlogs. I like listening to the testimonies of women who are on this journey like I am, and women who have made it to their finish line.
The biggest lesson I learned: Stay consistent and be patient. Results don’t happen overnight.
My advice for people who want to lose weight: Love yourself and the person you are today, before you start this journey. Confidence and self love are not side effects of weight loss. Also, make sure you are taking this journey for you and no one else.
