Transformation of the Day: Sanora lost 71 pounds. After relocating for New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina, she used food to soothe the pain from all the loss she experienced. When she began to have a number of health issues, she decided that is was time to take action and take back her health. Check out how she did it.
My name is Sanora and I’m from New Orleans. My journey started after Hurricane Katrina. At the time, I moved to Austin, Texas. I was very stressed out after losing a family member and losing everything in the storm. I would eat a lot to ease my pain.
A year and half ago, I noticed I started having health problems. I was dealing with arthritis, high blood pressure and foot spurs. Foot spurs are little bones that feel like needles at the bottom of your heels. I was really suffering and I knew that it was time to change my life around.
I started by focusing on portioning my food correctly. I didn’t eat fried foods or junk food for 6 months straight. I ate more baked chicken and fish and more veggies. I worked out 30 minutes a day by walking on the track 5 days a week. I also did at-home workouts by watching YouTube workout videos.
My starting weight was 246 pounds. Now, I weigh 175 pounds. My height is 5’3″. It took me a year and half to get to where I am at right now. I stayed dedicated and motivated. Nothing made me change my mind, not even being tired and sore from working out. Now, I feel happier with myself and I know that I can conquer anything if I put my mind to it. To this day, I workout and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I take it day by day.
My advice: Don’t wait until you start having health problems. Get started NOW. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what! With each step you take, you’ll grow stronger and stronger, more skilled, more self-confident and more successful.
