Transformation of the Day: Salina lost 114 pounds. Her motivation was a desire to live a long and healthy life. How did she do it? She used a popular at-home workout program and worked to figure out what healthy eating means for her. Going Vegetarian was a big part of her journey.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My motivation is to live a longer healthier life. I also want to be able to have a variety of options when it comes to clothes, instead of always being stuck looking at plus size clothing only.
How did you change your eating habits?
In the beginning, I started with the 21 Day Fix program, which is centered around portion control and 30 minute exercise sessions. From there, I cut out red meat. Eventually, I went completely Vegetarian, eating beans, lentils, etc. for my protein. I feel so much better after cutting out meat and the weight has melted off of me.
What did your workout routine look like?
In the beginning, I started doing the 30 minute workouts provided on the 21 Day Fix DVDs that come with the program. 7 different workouts for 7 days. Then, I went to walking for 4 miles a day. As time went on, I increased my exercise to at least 90 minutes a day. My workouts included yoga, pilates, weight lifting, Combat classes, and cycling.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 293 pounds and my current weight is 179 pounds. My height is 5”5 or 165 cm.
How long did your transformation take?
I started on March 31, 2015, so it’s been a little over 2 years and 5 months.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Just don’t give up. Once you start seeing the weight melting off and see how good you feel, the struggle and pains will be well worth it. Also make sure you have a positive support group or even a workout partner to share the journey with.
