Transformation of the Day: Jasmine lost 47 pounds. Being diagnosed with pre-diabetes and having difficulty with everyday tasks are the red flags that motivated her to change her lifestyle. Keeping a food log, meal prepping and commiting to regular exercise produced results. Check out what she shared with us.
What was your motivation?
When my doctor informed me that I was pre-diabetic and would have to start medication, that’s when I knew it was time to start my weight loss journey. I was also motivated to lose weight when every day things, like walking up the stairs, became a challenge. Overall, I was ready for a change.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
There are times when I have to drag myself to gym or force myself to not eat that ice cream. However, as soon as I look at photos of my progress, I feel inspired to keep going. Also, just remembering why I started my weight loss journey inspires me to not give up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating my eating habits by paying attention to what I was eating and how much I was eating. Tracking my foods allows me to monitor my eating habits and adjust them accordingly. I also drink tons of water!
I have a really bad sweet tooth. Instead of completely getting rid of sweets, I have learned to eat them in moderation and replace them with healthier options, such as fruit. I also meal prep breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 5 days.
What did your workout routines look like?
I currently go the the gym 3-4 times a week for about 1.5 hours per session. When I am not in the gym, I still try to reach my step goal of 12,000 steps a day. My exercise routine consists of cardio (elliptical and treadmill), running/track, weight lifting and jump roping.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 204 pounds. My current weight is 157 pounds. I am 5’4″.
How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in October 2016. My transformation has taken about 8 months.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice to others: enjoy the journey. There will be times where you overeat and skip the gym. Don’t beat yourself over these bumps in the road. Keep pushing. You’ll reach your goal. Also, get rid of the scale and take lots of photos to gage your progress!
