Update: NaTasha lost 80 pounds. This proud mom and talented singer changed her eating habits, exercised regularly and focused on the things that truly motivated her. She shared with us how she used green smoothies overcome a plateau and got results.
2 years ago, I was about to hit the 300 lbs club. God spared me from diabetes and hypertension. A year and a half ago, I had a “Oh no, ma’am. Tasha get your life together, in Jesus name” moment. The truth was brought to light by my then 2 years old daughter. She pointed me out in a group photo. I didn’t realize how big I had gotten and I truly didn’t even recognize myself in the picture. From there, I started changing my lifestyle.
That meant changing my surroundings, eating cleaner and working out daily – even if it was just walking briskly for 30 minutes. I also increased my water intake and kept positive, like-minded people around me. Before I started this journey, I didn’t eat a lot. However, I snacked a lot, especially on chips and candy. Dollar tree was my best friend when it came to that.
Although I was losing weight and was able to keep up with my daughter, I noticed a decrease in how much weight I was losing. Since I lost so much weight so quickly, I also had a lot of excess skin. I needed to stay motivated, because I didn’t want to put the weight back on. I needed to tone up, but I had plateaued and wasn’t seeing much change. We all know its insanity to keep doing the same thing and expect change.
I decided to try JJ Smith’s 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse. My body wasn’t changing anymore because I needed to DETOX! I incorporated Green Smoothies into my diet and began losing weight again. My skin started clearing up and I even had bowel relief (I suffer with uterine fibroids that cause constipation). I was eating clean, but I needed something extra to help… and the detox HELPS. Her book helped me to recognize why and when I ate out of character. I learned to check that eating spirit (emotional eating), and walk, workout, sing do something other than eat.
I went from a 24W/26W dress to 14/12 (10 depend on length and sleeves) and dropped a total 80 pounds of fat. I also gained muscle and I’m working on tightening up my skin. The process has not been easy, but it has been rewarding and a huge blessing. I think I finally got everything in order.
Sometimes we think we know it all and we don’t. Since we know it all, we don’t do it all. To stay consistent, I push myself to try new things. WE ALL NEED A CHALLENGE. My challenge is to stay motivated. I have increased my weight lifting and body strength workouts to build muscle so I’m not just doing cardio. I also participate in 5Ks to stay motivated, where I also sing the National Anthem. I work out with other ladies in my area who need the push that I once needed but didn’t have anyone to push me. I post regular singing and comedy videos online about eating right, working out and losing weight. I also post videos on healthy food options and work out videos. The videos help to show my transition into a healthy lifestyle. I wasn to show people that it is possible.
I’m also motivated by the fact that I can sing and perform better. More opportunities have come my way because I am healthier. Do you know how good it feels to not be out of breath after a few vocal runs or being able to fit clothes that the costume designer has for you. Out of all of these things, my biggest motivation has been seeing how happy my daughter is because mommy is up and moving. There are times when she will say, “Mommy, did you go for your walk”, “Mommy, remember to eat healthy food”, “Mommy, it’s time to go to the play gym” and “Mommy, let’s make a video. Use this song”. I still do the 10-day green smoothie detox at least every 2 to 3 months and I drink my Yogi tea every day.
I thank God daily for another chance to live. I don’t compare myself to anyone, not even the old me, because every journey is different. They told me I couldn’t do it and laughed at me. Look at how God brought me through!
