Transformation of the Day: Marquita lost over 100 pounds. At the start of her journey, she was emotionally drained from the death of her mother, and providing care for her sister who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She was also dealing with a number of serious health issues, including diabetes. This amazing lady has not only transformed but she is helping to transform her sister’s life as well. Check out her inspirational story.
In the pictures on the left where I’m sitting, I weigh 234 pounds. The death of my mother emotionally drained me. I am also providing care for my sister Cheryl who has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. I was also drained by having type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. I was on the verge of heart disease as well. But!… What an amazingly awesome God we serve.
In the pictures on the right, I’m down over 100 pounds and free and cleared of all diseases. On December 3, I competed on a professional stage for OCB Capital City Classic. My current weight is 119 pounds and my height is 5’6″.
My sister Cheryl needs total care and 24 hours supervision on a daily basis. She needs assistance with changing, bathing, puréed food, feedings, hair, and dressing. Cheryl doesn’t speak and she’s legally blind in one of her eyes. She has been confined to a wheelchair all of her life.
Doctors said that she would never stand or walk in her life. We have provided care for her since the passing of my mother in 2012. I have been so inspired by Tony Smith’s relationship with his brother Cal, that I have started to help my sister balance herself and stand up. After our daily therapy sessions, she started making attempts to walk and make small steps when someone is holding her hands. However, this morning she made several steps on her own. I was so excited that I couldn’t even finish recording a video of her. I realized that God has given me a gift. I’m going to help my sister conquer all her dreams. I love my sister so much.
I began my journey in November of 2014 at Body by Maria. Through her Eat Clean classes, I was introduced to proper eating. Then, I began to make healthier choices, by preparing my foods at home. Meal preparation was done every Sunday. I made small changes first. If I ate clean for 5 days and saw results, on the 6th day I would treat myself to a cheat meal. (Note: A cheat meal not a cheat day.) As time went along, I would continue this process.
I really wasn’t a cookie or candy type of person in the past. However, I truly enjoyed soda (Pepsi) and junk foods, especially my carbs, French fries, burgers, Macaroni and cheese, lasagna, etc. I had to totally change my diet, choosing healthier choices, like ground turkey, red potatoes, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean meats. I also had to eat proper portion sizes and ate 5-6 meals per day. I paid very close attention to my calorie intake and my sodium and sugar levels, I also paid very close attention to the serving sizes of my foods. My trainer, Zoe from 11:11 Body Sculpting Gym, educated me and created a plan for my success.
My workout plan included cardio, 3 to 4 times a week. Trails, running, biking and HIIT routines. I also worked out with weights, doing heavy lifting with low reps and light lifting with heavy reps. I loved taking group classes as well. I took Body by Maria classes 4 to 5 days a week. Having a support system makes a significant difference. I started working out four days a week and as I grew stronger, I began to add more days.
My advice to others is that patience is the key to a successful journey. We must fix the mind before when can begin to fix the body. Stay consistent and don’t give up. Use habit forming techniques to complete each goal you’ve set and you will win.
Biggest Lesson: You are not alone, and that all things are possible as long as you believe. Second chances are real, so when you feel like quitting ask yourself “Why not you?”. Why can’t you have it all? Well, you can! Stay in the game. Slow motion beats no motion. As long as you are moving, you are winning.
Losing over 100 pounds while caring for my sister and dealing with the death of my mom took a toll on me, but I made it through. I just want people to know that no matter their circumstances, all things work for our good. Be encouraged while going through the process. God plans are always better than ours. #weightloss is real#transformation #fitness #eatclean
