Transformation of the Day: Tasha lost 70 pounds, going from a size 24 to a size 14. Her wake up call came when her doctor told her that she would be put on insulin if she didn’t change her lifestyle. She did her research, leaned on her faith, took action and got results. Check out her story.
I started my journey a little over a year ago. I have always been a very shy and insecure about my weight. I never wanted to draw attention to myself, and never thought I was worthy of anything. People who I loved were the ones who hurt my feelings the worst. I use to think, “Well, I’m just going to do enough to just live life (not even trying to enjoying life).”
What made me change my way of thinking was a health scare that occured during one of my doctor’s appointment. My doctor told me that my blood sugar was is all over the place. He told me that I was tipping the scale at almost 300 pounds. If I didn’t change my eating habits and exercise, I would be on insulin for the rest of my life. He gave 3 months without in meds to lose some weight and change my eating habits.
After hearing that news, I got depressed and real withdrawn from myself and everybody else. My mom was the one who noticed that I was going through something, but she didn’t know just what I was going through. She told me, “Whatever it is, it’s not too big for God!” So, at that point I decided to take control on life. God gave me this one temple (body) and it’s my responsibility to take care of it! I slowly started changing my eating habits. I google’d “What is eating clean.” and I went on from there, learning what foods work for me.
I gradually got myself off all the bad foods I was eating, such as sodas, fried foods, starchy foods, chips and dip, etc. Once I did that, I was well on my way. My next biggest challenge was waking up these old bones and exercising. Of course, once again I went online and google’d beginner workouts that you can do at home. Now, I have a life time gym membership. I get mad if I miss gym. I work out at the gym 3 days a week. I work out at home 4 days a week, 30 minutes morning and at nighttime.
When I went back to the doctor after 3 months, I’d lost my first 15 pounds. Believe it or not, I was a little disappointed until my doctor said go to the grocery store and pick up three 5 pound bags of potatoes. He said, “Mrs. Scullark and that’s going show you how much weight you lost.” I was like ‘WOW” after I went to that grocery store and picked those bags of potatoes up!
I’ve lost 70 pounds. I am 5’4″ and went from a size 22/24 to a size 14/16. I’m a new healthy, beautiful, sexy new ME. It’s still a struggle and a challenge. I have learn to love the new healthy me and embrace being the beautiful person that I am. I’m not afraid to look in the mirror any more. What I thought was impossible, now I see and believe it can be done! Prayer, motivation and determination= healthy results.
My advice to others is to put God first and what we think is impossible is possible. First, learn what works for you and do your research. Take your time and do not rush it. Prayer, determination and motivation= positive results!
